A Traditional Product in a Modern Packaging Solution

Since 1928, the Krämer cidery in the Odenwald region has stood for high‑quality apple wine craftsmanship. With more than 130 steel tanks ranging from 90,000 to 120,000 liters, the family-owned cidery is one of the region’s production leaders.

For the modern cider brand BEMBEL-WITH-CARE, Krämer combines tradition with an innovative and sustainable packaging solution: aluminium for beverage cans from Speira.

 

The Callenge

BEMBEL-WITH-CARE needed a packaging format that preserves aroma and carbonation, is lightweight, robust, and mobile - perfect for hiking, festivals, and events. It also had to offer large surface areas for modern brand communication and be fully recyclable.

The traditional glass bottle reached its limits, especially regarding handling, transport efficiency, and design flexibility.

The Solution Aluminium for Beverage Cans

Speira’s aluminium meets all of BEMBEL-WITH-CARE’s requirements and offers a range of additional advantages. “The can protects the aroma perfectly. It is the best container for our apple wine,” says Karsten Schwinn, CEO of BEMBEL-WITH-CARE GmbH.

The aluminium can also performs strongly in terms of transport efficiency: it is lightweight, easy to stack, and enables more efficient logistics with lower emissions. “You can transport more product in cans than in bottles,” explains Toni Nicklisch, Event Manager & Sales at BEMBEL-WITH-CARE. This is a decisive benefit, particularly for festival and event tours.

Furthermore, the aluminium beverage can is a prime example of true circularity. It is 100 percent recyclable, can be returned at any supermarket. “After 60 days, the can is back on the shelf. That’s how the recycling loop works,” says Patrick Mathia, Head of Recycling at Speira Neuss.

Another major advantage is design flexibility: the aluminium beverage can offers significantly more space for branding and enables a modern, highly visible appearance. Compared to a glass bottle, the can gives you completely different possibilities for placing brand messages.
