As one of only a few manufacturers in Europe, Speira is accredited to DIN EN ISO 17034 for the production of certified reference material for element content in aluminium alloys (D-RM-21383-01-00). Our portfolio covers all common wrought and cast alloys, giving laboratories, cast houses, and quality assurance departments a reliable basis for analyzing aluminium materials.
The chemical composition of an aluminium alloy determines its mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties, which makes precise analysis essential in aluminium processing. Certified reference materials provide the reference values needed to calibrate measuring instruments, validate analytical methods, and monitor production processes, ensuring quality across the entire value chain.
Certified reference materials are used whenever the chemical composition of aluminium and aluminium alloys needs to be determined. In production monitoring, for example, they serve as control samples in statistical process control, ensuring that the composition of the processed material stays within the defined specifications. They are also an integral part of calibrating common analytical techniques such as spark optical emission spectrometry (spark OES) and X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF). Beyond that, they play an important role in method validation for ICP-OES and ICP-MS techniques.
The decisive advantage of CRMs over conventional aluminium reference samples lies in the complete specification of precise element content for both alloying and trace elements, along with the associated measurement uncertainties. This allows the results of chemical analysis to be traced back to SI units, ensuring standard conformity and demonstrable reliability during audits. Achieving this level of traceability requires a extensive certification process.
The Speira portfolio comprises more than 180 reference materials covering all common aluminium alloy groups. For wrought alloys in accordance with DIN EN 573-3, we offer samples from across the 1000 series, the 2000 series (Al Cu), the 3000 series (Al Mn), the 5000 series (Al Mg), the 6000 series (Al MgSi), the 7000 series (Al Zn), and the 8000 series (Al Fe and others). For cast alloys according to DIN EN 1706, alloy types such as 42100 (Al Si7Mg), 43000 (Al Si10Mg), 46000 (AlSi9Cu3), 46100 (Al Si11Cu2), 46200 (Al Si8Cu3), 47100 (Al Si11Cu1), and 48000 (Al Si12CuNiMg) are available.
Speira’s aluminium reference samples cover a broad range of matrices and concentration levels, making them suitable for a wide variety of analytical requirements. Each sample comes with a certificate documenting the element content and measurement uncertainties for the common alloying and trace elements. The samples are highly homogeneous, ensuring reliable results even at trace levels.
Certified reference material from Speira provide a reliable basis for consistent measurement results, which is crucial for calibrating analytical instruments, monitoring production, or audit-compliant quality assurance. What sets Speira products apart?
Production starts at our own casting facilities, where each aluminium alloy is melted to a defined composition and continuously cast. Having our own cast house gives us a high degree of flexibility in adjusting the alloy composition, which enables us to produce a broad range of aluminium reference samples.
To ensure traceable results, the cast samples are then characterized in our own accredited testing laboratory (D-PL-21383-01-00) to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.
Finally, once the homogeneity assessment is complete, the measured element composition and associated uncertainties are compiled into a certificate that meets the requirements of DIN EN ISO 17034. Each sample is accompanied by a certificate containing complete details on alloying and trace elements, making it ready for immediate use in calibration, process and analytical control, and method validation.
Speira is one of Europe’s leading companies in aluminium rolling and recycling, with over 40 years of experience in producing reference materials for aluminium alloys. For international sales, Speira works exclusively with Labmix24 GmbH, an established distributor of reference materials based in Hamminkeln, Germany.
