We strive to promote innovation and implement continuous improvement measures to reduce the environmental impact of our activities and products. For instance, our aluminum recycling process requires only about 5% of the energy needed to produce primary aluminum via the bauxite route.
Aluminum is a key component of the circular economy, as the material can be recycled 100% repeatedly without any loss of quality. Our own recycling facilities make a significant contribution to aluminum recycling. Our recycling capacity for packaging alone amounts to 100,000 tons per year, which corresponds to the aluminum content of all beverage cans consumed annually in Germany.
We pursue an ambitious strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ensure transparency regarding our products and operations. We have set a goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045 by promoting innovation and implementing measures for continuous improvement.
Speira is a member of ASI – a multi-stakeholder initiative to drive global, sector-wide transformation for aluminium, and customers’ assurance of responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium.
Our sites in Grevenbroich, Hamburg, Rheinwerk, Karmoy and Holmestrand are part of the ASI Performance Standard. The Grevenbroich, Hamburg and Rheinwerk plants have also been certified according to the ASI Chain of Custody Standard.
Speira is a member of the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) and have committed to reach net-zero by 2045. We have set ambitious near-term and long-term targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and the targets have also been validated by the SBTi.
