Aluminium is an indispensable material for the defense industry and defense-related applications. Its high specific strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and strong formability and weldability make it a key enabler of modern military structures and mobile systems. These properties allow for lightweight, resilient, and durable components across land, air, and naval applications. Speira manufactures in Europe and operates a highly integrated value chain, supporting military and defense-related partners with reliable aluminium solutions, high material quality, and stable supply capabilities.
Lightweight. Robust. Traceable. Speira produces around one million tons of rolled products each year across eleven production sites in Germany and Norway, providing scalable capacity and resilient supply chains for the defense industry.

We support you in selecting the right alloys, formats, and testing requirements for aluminium in the defense industry, building a solid foundation for long-term, plannable supply programs. The more we know upfront about alloy, format, dimensions, tolerances, and testing requirements, the better we can support your project. Let us know about the following details as early as possible:
The performance of defense-grade aluminium alloys depends largely on selecting the right one for the application. Speira offers a broad range of aluminium alloys, from high-purity 1000-series alloys through the well-established 3000, 4000, and 5000 series for corrosion-resistant and formable applications, up to high-strength 6000-series and selected 8000-series alloys for specialized use cases.
Depending on the requirement and application, Speira supplies aluminium semi-finished products in various formats that integrate flexibly into existing manufacturing and processing operations:
EN AW-5083 is one of the strongest non-heat-treatable aluminium alloys and is known for its exceptional corrosion resistance, even under extreme environmental conditions. Its properties make it ideal for maritime applications and any use case where reliability, durability, and structural safety are essential.
Plate material made from EN AW-5083 is particularly important for the defense industry. Its high strength, excellent weldability, and dimensional stability provide a robust basis for safety-critical structures. Whether used in shipbuilding and naval vessel construction, military land vehicles, protection systems, special-purpose containers, or mission modules, 5083 plate delivers the combination of resilience, lightweight design, and material integrity required in demanding military environments.
Alloy 5754 combines solid strength with excellent formability and corrosion resistance. It is well suited for logistics systems, transport containers, protective shelters, and equipment components where weight reduction and durability are important.
For applications with particularly high demands on conductivity, chemical purity, or specific physical properties, Speira offers high-purity aluminium in purity grades from Al 99.99% (4N) up to Al 99.99995% (6N5). These grades are primarily used in functional or electronically sensitive components where even the smallest impurities must be ruled out.
Speira’s manufacturing capacity is both flexible and scalable, supporting a wide range of routings, formats, and technical specifications. With extensive rolling and finishing capacity, specialized conversion mills, and in-house R&D, Speira provides the infrastructure needed to deliver on demanding supply programs. Alongside defense-related applications, Speira also supplies aluminium rolled products to other well-established industries such as shipbuilding and transport. We support partners from material selection and development through to series production, maintaining consistently high quality standards and reliable supply throughout.
Our team supports you from your first inquiry through to reliable series supply. Feel free to share any information you have on alloys, format, dimensions, or testing standards. The more specific your inquiry, the faster we can find the right solution.
