Coated aluminium for roofs: durable and elegant solution

A roof must withstand numerous environmental influences and weather conditions every day, whether heavy rain, hail or snow loads. Even extreme weather conditions pose no challenge for aluminium roofing. Roofs made of aluminium and aluminium roofing systems also score with maximum corrosion and UV resistance. All in all, the robust properties ensure that aluminium roofing has a longevity that can last for generations.

While the light weight of the roof panels made of aluminium for architecture and construction makes installation much easier in addition to environmentally friendly transport, the comprehensive range of colors of our pre-painted products ensures that you can meet every design requirement. Our many years of experience with the advanced coil coating process make us your partner when it comes to economically efficient and visually elegant solutions for aluminium roofing as well as aluminium façade cladding, shading and aluminium window frames.

Pre-painted semi-finished products for roofing

For our semi-finished aluminium products for roofing systems, aluminium roofing sheets and panels, we rely on aluminium with a high recycled content. Our TECTURA Coated product series for aluminium roofing is manufactured in Holmestrand, our “greenest plant” with the lowest CO₂ footprint.

A special feature of our TECTURA solutions is their good formability, which ensures easy further processing in your production. In addition to aluminium roofing sheets, you can produce standing seam roofs, standing seam panels or aluminium roof panels as well as aluminium roof tiles, which look deceptively similar to concrete or clay tiles thanks to their coating.

With free-form aluminium roofs, there are virtually no limits to the design possibilities. From traditional roofs to futuristic curved roof shapes to narrow superstructures, individual customer wishes can be realized with our aluminium. Even large-area aluminium roofs are possible thanks to the excellent adaptability to the building construction – both for round and conical buildings.

Aluminium for roofing systems: TECTURA Coated from Speira

Our TECTURA Coated product line is used for aluminium roofs and is especially suitable for the construction sector. The alloys 3000 and 5000 developed in-house in combination with modern, chrome-free pre-treatments and coatings ensure that our semi-finished products provide excellent durability for aluminium roofing sheets and aluminium roofing systems. Extensive testing under real-life conditions, accelerated corrosion testing, and established market performance make our sheets the optimum choice for roofing applications. It goes without saying that TECTURA Coated is produced and tested in accordance with the requirements described in EN 1396 and EN 13523.

TECTURA Coated in "Coastal Quality" has a special material composition that is designed for the demanding conditions in coastal regions. Roofing made of pre-painted aluminium in Coastal Quality easily withstands the special environmental influences, including salt, high humidity and intense sunlight.

Comprehensive guarantees on aluminium for roofing

TECTURA Coated comes with various comprehensive guarantees. For example, we offer a 50-year guarantee on TECTURA Coated PVDF roofing membranes. Each guarantee is limited to the roof applications. Details of the warranty conditions, the warranty period, the scope of the warranty and the compensation rules can be found in our product sheets on request. FAQ: aluminium roofing

Aluminium roofs are significantly lighter than clay tiles, concrete roofing, or roofs made from other metals. This lower weight means the supporting structure can be designed with less material, which reduces both construction and installation costs. At the same time, aluminium is highly resistant to corrosion, forming a natural oxide layer that protects the roof from weathering and ensures long-lasting performance. The smooth surface of aluminium roofing also helps minimize maintenance. In many cases, rainfall is enough to keep the roof clean.

Aluminium is a versatile choice for pitched and flat roofs, as well as for complex, large-scale roof designs that require long runs and wide spans. It’s commonly used in industrial and manufacturing facilities, logistics hubs, exhibition and sports venues, and public buildings such as schools and childcare centers. Aluminium roofing is also gaining ground in residential construction, often in the form of lightweight systems that mimic the look of traditional tiles or incorporate integrated solar solutions. In addition, lightweight aluminium coverings are ideal for terraces, carports, and balconies.

When properly designed and installed, an aluminium roof can last 40 to 60 years or even longer. Aluminium naturally forms a protective oxide layer, and additional color coatings provide long-term protection against corrosion, helping the roof maintain its performance for decades. That said, material quality plays a critical role in overall durability. The specific alloys used, along with the chosen pre-treatments and coating systems, directly influence how well the roof withstands environmental exposure over time. High-quality rolled and coated aluminium ensures excellent dimensional stability, strong formability, and reliable resistance to weathering and other external influences. Well-matched material properties also make further processing easier, such as roll forming or profiling. Aluminium roofs are virtually maintenance-free, with rain typically keeping the surface clean. In most cases, periodic visual inspections are sufficient to assess their condition.

Aluminium for roofing is available in various surface finishes, including mill-finish, stucco-embossed, and pre-painted grades. Pre-painted coils produced using the coil coating process offer a wide range of color options and high-performance paint systems such as polyester, epoxy, or PVDF coatings. These finishes are based on Speira’s chrome-free pre-treatment (hot anodizing), which ensures a durable bond between metal and coating, even under demanding conditions.

Speira’s raw materials for semi-finished aluminium roofing systems can also be tailored to meet specific project requirements. In addition to standard solutions for common aluminium roofing systems, we offer custom-fabricated options for large-scale or design-driven applications. Our TECTURA Coated product line, for example, is used to create standing seam roofs, trapezoidal profiles, aluminium roof panels, and aluminium tiles that closely replicate the look of concrete or clay tiles. Thanks to aluminium’s excellent formability, even freeform roofs with curved or conical shapes can be realized with ease.

Yes, aluminium is also used for roof drainage systems such as gutters and downspouts. It offers excellent corrosion resistance, long service life, and can be color-matched to the roof for a cohesive look. Typically, the same raw material used for the roofing is also used for the drainage components, ensuring visual consistency across the entire system. On-site installation is carried out using modern adhesive systems, which provide the same long-lasting durability as traditional soldered joints.

Aluminium roofs require structural allowances for thermal expansion and contraction. Unlike other materials, aluminium components aren’t soldered or welded, they’re bonded or mechanically fastened. At Speira, we tailor our raw materials specifically for forming processes, ensuring that alloy composition, pre-treatment, and coatings are precisely matched. This allows the aluminium roofing sheets to be roll-formed, bent, or punched without damaging the finish or compromising the material’s shape stability.

Yes, the aluminium used by Speira contains a high proportion of recycled content, significantly reducing its carbon footprint compared to primary aluminium. Recycled aluminium requires only a fraction of the energy needed for primary production, without compromising the material properties of the final product. While the roof material itself only partly affects a building’s heating or cooling efficiency, its exceptional durability, corrosion resistance, and low maintenance mean that little to no material or energy is needed for upkeep over decades. And when the roof eventually reaches the end of its life, the aluminium can be fully recycled and reprocessed almost indefinitely, with virtually no loss in quality.
